Breast augmentation is designed for self-motivated patients who feel that their breasts are too small. This may be due to heredity, pregnancy or nursing related deflation, or simply from the normal aging process. Augmentation creates larger, shapelier breasts through the placement of breast implants behind existing breast tissue or muscles.
Before proceeding with surgery, we work hard to educated our patients about breast augmentation. Dr. Bern spends as much time as necessary discussing incision sites, site of the implant placement, saline vs silicone implant type, implant shape, and, most importantly, implant size. Patients are encouraged to bring in the bra they hope to wear after surgery and use our sizers to help them make these important decisions.
We also encourage our patients to check out a website devoted to breast enlargment in which we participate. Implantinfo.com contains thousands to pre-and post-operative photos. Using the website’s search function, patients are encouraged to find photos of patients whose pre-operative breasts look like theirs then see how different implant sizes, shapes, types and placement contribute to their post-operative appearance Patients often bring search results to their consultation in order to discuss with Dr. Bern their desires, choices, and what can realistically be expected. Some other websites include www.lookingyourbest.com, www.natrelle.com, and www.breastimplantanswers.com.

Breast Enlargement Procedure
Dr. Bern has extensive experience with both saline and silicone implants and is an approved silicone implant surgeon. Augmentation mammoplasty is done on an outpatient basis in a surgical center, under general anesthesia. Breast enlargement surgery may be combined with abdominoplasty or liposuction.
Since the 1960's, more than two million women in the United States have chosen to receive breast implants. Patient satisfaction rates are greater than 90%. As one of our patients commented recently,”I’ve completely forgotten that I was once a AA. Now when I shop, I no longer look for clothes to hide my figure. I just feel more confident in my body.”
