Eyelid Lifts (Blepharoplasty)
The eyes reveal much about how a person feels. When your eyes are bright and alert, you appear happy, energized and refreshed. However, if you have drooping upper lids, lower eyelid puffiness, or dark shadows under the eyes, others may assume that you are tired, angry or unhappy. Age, sun exposure and hereditary factors can all contribute to these changes. When changes become severe, vision may even be affected.

Types of Eyelid Lifts
An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is designed to restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance to your eyes. It may involve the upper lids, the lower lids, or both. Upper eyelid surgery can remove the excess fat and drooping skin. The same procedure can be modified to give Asian eyelids a defined "double fold".
Lower lid surgery is designed to minimize bags under the eyes and tighten the lower eyelid skin. Removal of the fat is usually performed through the inside of the lower eyelid. This technique leaves no visible scars and is unlikely to change the lower eyelid position or contour. When there is excess skin or wrinkles in the lower eyelid they may be lessened by skin excision or softened with laser skin resurfacing.
Combining Eyelid Lifts with Other Procedures
Eyelid lifts are sometimes combined with other procedures. For example, when the edge of the upper lid droops, it may be necessary to tighten the muscle which raises the lid. If the upper eyelid condition is accompanied by sagging of the eyebrows, then a forehead lift may be considered. When crow's feet are prominent, they respond well to Botox treatments or laser resurfacing procedures. Your exact procedure depends on your specific desires and your eyelids’ physical condition.
