After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Harvard, I attended Yale Medical School, completed my General Surgery residency at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital, and my Plastic Surgery residency at UCLA. I was president of my medical school class, and Chief Resident at both Harvard and UCLA.

Of special importance to patients with a diagnosis of melanoma is that Dr. Samuel Bern is one of only a few Board Certified Plastic Surgeons who are also an active member of the Society of Surgical Oncologists. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Bern has treated thousands of patients with melanoma. Dr. Bern works closely with local primary care physicians, dermatologists and oncologists, as well as with oncologists at tertiary care centers such as Cedar Sinai Medical Center and the John Wayne Cancer Institute. Dr. Samuel Bern has been in private practice in Ventura since 1992 and maintains privileges at Community Memorial Hospital, Ojai Valley Hospital, and Channel Islands Surgery Center.
About Dr. Samuel Bern
Dr. Samuel Bern was educated at Harvard where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Bern then attended Yale Medical School and served as president of his medical school class. Dr. Bern subsequently completed a General Surgery residency at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital where he was Chief Resident in 1989-90. He married Dr. Laurie McCall and joined her at UCLA where he was Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery in 1991-92. Dr. Samuel Bern is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery.
